The meeting was themed ‘Implementing OIE Guidelines to ensure the excellence of the veterinary profession’ and took place in Bangkok, Thailand.
We signed a Memorandum with the OIE (World Organisation for Animal Health) in 2011 and work with them in areas such as One Health and rabies control. Siraya Chunekamrai comments: “During this meeting the OIE set out its strategic plan, highlighting the importance of building on current OIE standards and training veterinarians to meet the ever higher expectations on them from society at large.
“In recent years, it is veterinarians who have taken on key roles to help protect the world's biodiversity, ensure public health and food safety and improve the economic and social conditions of people around the world. It’s a far cry from simply being a ‘doctor’ to animals but our profession is ready to take on the challenge - and our global veterinary community is leading the way.”
