We are sad to report the passing of the President of the HCAVS, Professor Tim Rallis and have received this tribute from his colleagues on the HCAVS board. Our thoughts are with them and with Tim’s family and friends.
On July 13th, Professor Timoleon (Tim) Rallis, President of the Board of the Hellenic Companion Animal Veterinary Society (HCAVS), passed away. His passing was unexpected and a sorrowful shock to the entire Greek veterinary community.
Tim Rallis was born and raised on the North East Aegean island of Lesvos and studied, worked and lived in Thessaloniki. He was Professor of Small Animal Internal Medicine/Gastroenterology at the School of Veterinary Medicine of the Aristotle University in Thessaloniki (A.U.Th.) where he served as Vice President and subsequently President of the School for four consecutive years (2005-2009). Since 2012 he was Head of the Companion Animal Clinic of the School of Veterinary Medicine, in the A.U.Th, where he worked until his last day.
It will not be easy to talk or write, using only a few words, about the personality, the character and the ethos of Timoleon. One cannot act otherwise but follow his subtle and modest speech, so characteristic of him and at the same time so disproportionate to his prominent and imposing presence in the veterinary science, in Greece and abroad.
Tim was distinguished by his deep scientific knowledge, his pioneering ideas and his remarkable contribution to the science he adored. Evident all along his academic career, his generosity spread from the amphitheater to the clinic to the personal relationships and friendships he developed in and out of the University.
He was an avid supporter of continuous education and veterinary specialization and strove all through his career to make them widely available. In 2009 he, along with other colleagues who shared the same vision, co-founded the H.C.A.V.S. He was an active member of its Board, Vice President for two consecutive terms and President for the past three years. The void created by his absence is and will always remain irreplaceable.
Tim is leaving behind his loved ones, his wife Penelope and his daughter Stella who are in our thoughts.
We, the members of the HCAVS Board, will miss, remember, keep close to our hearts the Teacher, the friend, the invaluable partner and take comfort in knowing that Tim will be guiding us and watching over us all.
