We mourn a leader of the veterinary community in Georgia. We are sad to share the news that our Member Representative from GeoSAVA in Georgia, Dr Elena Chichinadze, passed away following a serious illness in March.
Elena was a tireless leader of the veterinary community in Georgia and a proud president of GeoSAVA. She was active in many veterinary associations and always said that it was her goal to bring GeoSAVA into membership of the WSAVA. She was so proud to sign the letter confirming GeoSAVA’s admission during World Congress last year.
WSAVA Executive Board member Renee Hoynck says: “I met Elena many times and saw her shed tears of joy when GeoSAVA became members of FECAVA and, later, the WSAVA. She was a dedicated veterinarian striving for better veterinary care in Georgia. She will be missed by everybody.”
Janne Orro, WSAVA Regional Member Advocate for Europe, adds: “Elena was an active spokesperson for our profession in Georgia and neighbouring countries, a promoter of high professional standards and of CE among companion animal vets. She was a warm and enthusiastic host for every colleague and friend visiting Georgia. Georgian veterinarians have lost a tireless leader and colleagues abroad have lost a great friend.”
Elena made a huge contribution to the veterinary profession in Georgia and will be sadly missed by her colleagues at home and internationally. She will, of course, be missed most of all by her family. Our thoughts go out to them at such a difficult time.
