Learning from the Best - our International Scholars visit NAVC Conference!

Published: 2/14/2017

Thanks to the generous support of NAVC, this year’s Colin F. Burrows International Scholars have just completed their visit to this year’s NAVC Conference

The Colin F. Burrows International Scholar Program offers veterinarians from developing countries the opportunity to attend the NAVC Conference with many past scholars going on to become leaders of the profession in their home countries. Former WSAVA President Professor Colin Burrows says: “NAVC Conference was, as always, a fantastic opportunity for our Scholars to learn from the best in the world. It was a pleasure to meet them and they have returned home with much new knowledge to share with their colleagues.”

This year’s Scholars are:

  • Dr Adriaan Adank, Namibia. Dr Adank was nominated by the board of the African Small Companion Animal Network (AFSCAN), a project being run by the WSAVA Foundation, to raise standards of veterinary care in Africa

  • Dr Oron Prager, Israel. Dr Prager is chief CE Officer for Israel Companion Animal Veterinary Association (ICAVA) and is ICAVA’s representative to the WSAVA

  • Dr Mayuri Geethanjalie Thammitiyagodage, Sri Lanka. Dr Thammitiyagodage is a fellow of the Sri Lanka College of Veterinary Surgeons and a visiting lecturer for the University of Wayamba and the University of Peradeniya in Sri Lanka

  • Dr. Ketlin Sostra, Estonia. Dr Sostra works as an emergency veterinarian at a clinic in Tallinn, Estonia

The NAVC Conference took place in Florida, USA, between 4-8 February 2017. For further information on the Colin F. Burrows International Scholar Program, visit
