From July 6-10, WSAVA President Elect Dr Walt Ingwersen represented the WSAVA at the annual Canadian Veterinary Medicine Association (CVMA) Conference at Niagara Falls. It was held in conjunction with the Registered Veterinary Technicians and Technologists of Canada (RVTTC), which drew almost 1,000 attendees. Walt joined the CVMA Council for its leadership meeting, attended the annual CVMA business meeting as a voting member, joined the CVMA SUMMIT which featured a panel and member discussion on Antimicrobial Resistance and caught up with representatives from the AVMA, OIE and other stakeholder groups.
During lectures he also joined Paulo Steagall, a Global Pain Council member, to address delegates on the potential risk to the accessibility of ketamine through international rescheduling and invited them to check out the GPC’s resources on the subject and to sign our online petition to help ensure that ketamine remains an essential veterinary medicine.
He says: “Attending the CVMA Conference is always a valuable, informative and enjoyable experience and I was particularly delighted at the support its members are giving to our campaign to secure ketamine. It’s great to see that excitement is already building for the 2019 conference - a combined WSAVA World Congress event in Toronto, Ontario!”
