It seems like only yesterday that I joined the WSAVA. What a journey it has been!
To have shared the passion, dedication and strategic insights of so many of our volunteers has been humbling and exhilarating.
I would like to thank those in whose footsteps I follow – Jolle Kirpensteijn and Colin Burrows - who shepherded us through a period of tremendous growth with their leadership and vision. And my colleagues on the Executive Board – Shane, Siraya, Renee, Ellen and Nicola - as well as the newly strengthened Secretariat of June and Arpita. You are the ultimate team!
What better place to begin my term at the helm than in Cartagena, Colombia, where the Local Host Committee, under the leadership of Guillermo Logo and Ivanov Castellanos, lived up to our mission of ‘advancing the health and welfare of companion animals worldwide through an educated, committed and collaborative global community of veterinary peers’, not only by hosting a stellar scientific meeting but also by bringing our community together in many wonderful social events. You stepped in when the location of our 2016 meeting was uncertain and your positive attitude throughout was an inspiration. Thank you!
We continue to experience rapid growth and, while growth is a testament to the benefits of WSAVA membership, we must constantly refocus on our community to ensure we all feel part of the family and that opportunities for engagement and involvement are there for every one of us.
The lynchpin of success is communication and I encourage you to engage with the community through every available channel – the WSAVA Leadership team, the Committees, the Secretariat and, of course, our Member Associations. Why do alone what we can do together?
