Published: 10/30/2019

Welcome to Dr Leslie Lyons!

Dr Leslie Lyons, Professor of Comparative Medicine at the Department of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery at the University of Missouri, USA, has recently joined our Hereditary Disease Committee.  The Committee, chaired by Dr Jerold Bell, provides advice and resources to veterinarians and pet owners on hereditary diseases in dogs and cats.
Dr Lyons trained in human genetics and her postdoctoral fellowship focused on developing genetic resources for comparative gene mapping across mammalian species. Her research is primarily focused on heritable diseases and traits and the population dynamics of the domestic cat.
She says: “I have joined the HDC to aid in the development of policies and procedures that will support the widespread and proper use of genetic studies and genetic testing in companion animals.”

Dr Jerold Bell says:  "We welcome Dr Lyons to the Hereditary Disease Committee as an expert in molecular genetics, as well as feline hereditary disease. We look forward to engaging both the feline breeder and owner communities, as well as with veterinary practitioners to assist with improving the genetic health of our feline companions."
