Vision, Mission & Objectives

The British Small Animal Veterinary Association (BSAVA) exists to promote excellence in small animal practice through education and science.
The Association was founded in 1957 as a professional body to serve veterinary surgeons who treat companion animals.
It now has over 11,000 members.The majority of our members work in practice, and represent over a third of the working veterinary surgeons in the UK.

Priorities for the Upcoming Year

  • Launch of BSAVA Digital Library collection for developing countries.
  • Congresses in  2019 will be:
    • BSAVA Annual Congress held in April in Birmingham 4-7 April 2019, Birmingham, UK, please note, in an exciting development, BSAVA will be moving it’s annual Congress to Manchester Central in 2021.
    • Scottish Congress to be held once again in 2019.
    • An additional Welsh two-day event from  28 - 29 June 2019 will be held in Aberystwyth for small and large animal vets and vet nurses with a practical stream and exhibition. 
  • BSAVA Petsavers, the BSAVA Charity that funds clinical research, are aiming to significantly increase their fundraising over the next 3-5 years to support grants and publicise their projects. 
  • There will be continued reorganisation of BSAVA structure and function to bring it in line with similar Charitable organisations.
