    Professional and Research Experience:
    7/2015- present: Senior Drug Safety Specialist
    Merck Animal Health, Companion Animal Business Unit, Pharmacovigilance In this role, I have served as a senior drug safety specialist.  This job requires excellent communication and teaching skills, the ability to work independently and as a team member, organization, project management, an understanding of regulatory issues, a strong work ethic, and a strong clinical and scientific background.  
    This job has included some of the following tasks:
    Work with PV works software to report cases to regulatory authorities
    Work closely with regulatory authorities on reporting and troubleshooting Merck product issues
    Provide technical support and troubleshooting of problem medical cases for veterinarians and owners 
    Develop and present CE lectures to veterinarians at conferences on key scientific concepts and Merck products as a member of the speaker bureau
    Write publications for journals and research publications
    Perform data analysis on PV works database as needed to understand product trends
    Train pharmacovigilance technicians and veterinarians on Merck Animal Health products
    Communicate with the media during disease epidemics and new product launches

    In this company, I was hired first as an ORISE fellow, and then became an associate service fellow (government employee).  This job required both team work and leadership, the ability to work under high pressure situations efficiently and calmly in BSL-3+ conditions with infectious diseases and select agents, and the ability to handle stressful situations calmly.  It also required hard work and application of the scientific method to conduct public health research.  
    The job included some of the following tasks:
    Blood collection, physical exams, anesthesia, sample collection, necropsies on ferrets and mice for influenza challenge studies.  Basic husbandry and veterinary care of ferrets and mice 
    Collaboration with industry and division leads to design and implement projects
    Design and implementation of influenza challenge and immunization studies in vivo 
    In vitro test design and optimization
    Analysis of experimental and submitted samples, data analysis and preparation for publication
    Work in high containment labs, BSL-3+ facilities, and with select agents
