The Financial Advisory Committee (FAC) is a sub-committee of the WSAVA Executive Board (WSAVA EB) with membership comprised of both WSAVA EB members and Assembly members.
Vision
The FAC was set up to do the following:
- To undertake analysis of any aspect related to WSAVA financial management and make recommendations to the WSAVA EB.
- To review the annual budget for consideration by the WSAVA EB.
- To oversee that the financial management is in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, standards and best practice guidelines.
- To oversee the WSAVA’s investment policy and management strategy.
- To oversee the WSAVA’s asset policy and management strategy.
- To consider the appropriateness of the WSAVA’s accounting policies and principles, ensuring that they are in accordance with the stated financial reporting framework.
- To evaluate the annual audit.
They report to the Executive Board and the General Assembly.

Helping keep the WSAVA Sustainable.
Objectives
The FAC committee will review the financials quarterly and every six months will have a discussion on the state of the WSAVA Financials.

Dr. David Miller
Joined Onderstepoort Veterinary Academic Hospital in South Africa 1994- 1997 as a medical resident and then as a Senior Lecturer 1997-2003. During this time he was head of the Companion Animal Section for 2 years.
He then joined the Ridgemall Specialist Referral Centre [now know as the Johannesburg Specialist Veterinary Centre] in Johannesburg as their head physician.
Dr Miller is an author or co-author on more than 10 peer reviewed publications, has over 8 book chapters and has been an invited speaker at numerous International and local congresses and continuing Education courses during the past 25 years.
Dr Miller is married to wife Sarah and they have 2 children, Robin and Noah. The Millers have multiple dogs and cats and fish.
Dr Miller’s passion is making medical disease process’s understandable to clients and highlighting the great importance of early nutrition in Critical care as well as pain control in all aspects of Veterinary science.
Dr Emir Chaher
Dr Emir Chaher qualified from the University of Buenos Aires (Argentina) in 1997.
Short time after graduating, Dr. Chaher went to live and work for several years in Germany where he completed postgraduate studies at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich.
He now lives and works since 2004 in Portugal where he owns a Small Animal Clinic in sunny Alcochete, just across the river from Lisbon, and also provides ambulatory equine veterinary services specialized in sports medicine.
Dr. Chaher is President of the Portuguese Small Animal Veterinary Association (APMVEAC), WSAVA Representative, FECAVA Director and FIAVAC Representative. He is also a General Assembly Representative at the Portuguese College of Veterinary Surgeons (OMV) and Official FEI Veterinarian.
In his spare time, Emir is an avid sailor, amateur cook and a frequent traveller.
