2012 - 2013 Annual Report

 

During the 2012 to 2013, with the effort and involvement of the committee and all members, Shanghai Small Animal Veterinary Association made an amount of achievement in continuing education and association activities. During the 2 years we have hold 16 continuing education symposiums including WSAVA CE, the topics covered cat diseases, pathology, bone surgery, digestion, urinary, immunity, cardiovascular system, iconography, parasite, oncology, laboratory diagnosis and etc., which over 1200 attendees participated.

As the President of the Shanghai Small Animal Veterinary Association and China Veterinary Association Branch of Pet Medicine Executive Director, Dr. Geoffrey Chen has held 2 China Small Animal Veterinary Congress, April 2012 in Nanjing of Jiangsu province, April 2013 in Zhenzhou of Henan province.
With the led of Dr. Geoffrey Chen, China Veterinary Association held 2 China Small Animal Veterinary Congress in Nanjing of Jiangsu Province and Zhengzhou of Henan Province, over 5000 veterinarians from 32 provinces or regions including Shanghai, Tianjin, Chongqing, Beijing, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui, Shandong, Sichuan, Henan, Hebei, Hunan, Hubei, Shaanxi, Shanxi, Jiangxi, Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning, Guizhou, Yunnan, Xinjiang, Guangdong, Guangxi, Fujian, Inner Mongolia, Gansu, Qinghai, Hainan, Hongkong and Macau, and another over 1000 junior college students, undergraduates, graduate students, lecturers and professors from more than 30 agriculture colleges and universities. There were 6 parallel sessions during the congress, over 100 instructors from countries and regions including America, United Kingdom, Germany, Australia, Japan, Korea, Singapore, China Hong Kong, China Macau, China Taiwan delivered presentations about small animals’ otology, ophthalmology, dentistry, oral cavity, obstetrics, thremmatology, surgery, orthopaedics, urinary system, digestive system, cardiovascular system, anesthesiology, iconography, neurology, immunology, hemadenology, pathology, nutriology, lemology, dermatosis, cat disease, oncology, Chinese veterinarian, animal welfare and etc..

There were also over 120 local and overseas companies exhibited at the congress, which are pet food, veterinary drug, medical instruments, diagnostic equipment, test and diagnostic reagent, pet vaccine, pet healthcare products and professional publishers.

On the event held on Sept. 17th 2012 at Shanghai Science Hall, Dr. Sue Foster, an Australia clinic veterinarian sponsored by WSAVA made presentations on “Clinical Examination, Assessment and Case Studies of Anemia and Hemorrhagic Disorders”, “Clinical and Lab Diagnosis of Anemia and Hemorrhagic Disorders ” Anemia and Hemorrhagic Disorders are pretty common at small animals clinic results, the subsequent disease including hypovolemia and microcirculation hypoperfusion are the major result of shock and multiple organ failure, which provided clinical knowledge for common anemia and hemorrhagic disorders diagnosis. This is another part of the 2011 hematology series symposium, and a consolidate study via discussion on a series cases. The other highlight of this symposium is that describing the necessity of checking the medical history and physical examinations during preliminary review, and introducing a few simple clinical test which can be made in clinic or hospital.

On the event held on Sept. 17th 2012 at Shanghai Science Hall, Dr. Gertter Hear, an Netherland clinic veterinarian sponsored by WSAVA made presentation on “Hearing, hearing assessment (BERA) and ear surgery (including TECA/LBO, VBO and middle ear implants)”, “Advanced skin reconstruction techniques for the face, neck, chest, abdomen and limbs, including axial pattern flaps and grafts”, “Head and neck surgery for the advanced surgeon (salivary gland, thyroid, neck exploration for stick injury, repair of palatoschisis of hard and soft palate, mandibulectomy & maxillectomy)”, “Upper airway surgery ( Nasal incision technique techniques, pharyngeal and laryngeal surgery (BOAS and laryngeal paralysis, tracheotomy techniques and tracheal resection and anastomosis)”, “Thoracic surgery (partial and complete lung lobectomy, pericardectomy, ligation PDA, oesophagotomy techniques)”.

The “Shanghai Veterinarian” is the journal that the association make promoting and continuing education. Great progresses were made with the efforts of the editing committee during 2 years, we made huge achievements in paper quality, composing and contents(80 - 100 page)

The association signed the Tokyo – Shanghai Association Academic Communication and Cooperation Agreement during our participation at 2012 Tokyo Veterinarian Medicine Conference in Tokyo in February 2012.

In addition to holding the above continuing education courses, Shanghai Small Animal Veterinary Association also organize variety workshops and short courses with a few companies, usually we welcome 30 -100 veterinarian to attend.

With these continuing education and activities throughout the years, the technical skill, service awareness, concept of animal welfare and pursuit of knowledge of Shanghai veterinarians are keep increasing. Our pursue is to keep up with international advanced veterinarians.
