LSAPS Annual Report to WSAVA for 2016


2016 List of Activities:

  • On the 18th of March there was a Conference of Latvian Association of Veterinarians (LAV). Participants attended more than 430 which is more than ever!
  • On the 14th of May LSAPS in collaboration with Royal Canin Latvia organized the FECAVA CE seminar about management. Speakers: Pere Mercader (Spain) and Dzintars Koknevics (Latvia). Participants: 45 vets, 5 students and 4 managers from veterinary clinics.
  • On the 19th, 20th and 21th of September LSAPS in collaboration with Royal Canin Latvia organized first masterclass in orthopedics for small animal vets.
  • Speaker: Андрей Еманов (Andrej Jevmanov) from Russia. Participants: 13 vets from Latvia and 2 vets from Lithuania.
  • On the 20th of September LSAPS in collaboration with the LAV organized the scientific conference about research results of the outbreak of megaesophagus in dogs in Latvia.
  • On the 11th of December LSAPS organized the WSAVA CE seminar about gastroenterology. Speaker: prof. Edward J Hall (UK). Participants: 83 vets and 7 students from Latvia, 12 vets from Estonia, 6 vets from Lithuania.

Events in 2015 organised by the LSAPS (Latvian Small Animal Practitioners` Section), Latvia:


17/01/2015 annual LSAPS members` meeting and seminar about veterinary homeopathy and natural feeding of dogs and cats. During this event members gave their votes for candidates of the Board of LSAPS and of the Board of Latvian Association of Veterinarians. 


27/03/2015 in Jelgava, Latvia, LSAPS participated as a member organisation in the annual Conference of the Latvian Association of Veterinarians. There was the General meeting where we discussed numerous issues and elected two members into the Board of the Association (total number in the Board is 5 members), four members into the Committee of Professional Ethics (total number is 5 vets) and three members into the Auditing Commission.


06/03/2015 & 07/03/2015 in Jelgava, Latvia, LSAPS in collaboration with the FECAVA CE program organised the seminar in Radiology. The speaker was Denis Novak from Serbia. This seminar attended not only veterinarians from Latvia, but also from Lithuania and Estonia. There was a practical part on the 1st day and theoretical part on the 2nd day. The seminar was held in the clinic of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and during the practical part the speaker showed on dogs which were under general anaesthesia positions on the X-ray table which can be used to examine dogs with lameness. 


18/09/2015 in Riga, Latvia LSAPS in collaboration with Merial and MSD Animal Health organised the event: “Canine & Feline Vaccination – curent developments, practical tips and advises”. There were several speakers invited: Fulvio Marsilio (Italy), Donatas Olšauskas (Lithuania), David Sutton (UK), Lukasz Adaszek (Poland) and Ieva Meiere (Latvia). Participants were mostly from Latvia, but some veterinarians came from Lithuania and Estonia to this seminar.


From 15 until 17/10/2015 in Barcelona, Spain, was the AVEPA congress and FECAVA Eurocongress which attended also veterinarians from Latvia. LSAPS gave a chance to 5 members to attend this congress for free (except travel and accommodation expenses) and in return these attendees each will present one lecture for other LSAPS members during annual section`s meeting in 2016. 



08/11/2015 in Riga, Latvia, LSAPS in collaboration with the WSAVA CE program organised the seminar in Reproduction and Neonatalogy. The speaker was Angelika von Heimendahl from UK.  To this event came not only veterinarians and students from Latvia, but also colleagues from Lithuania and Estonia. All attendees were very satisfied with the knowledge and experience which speaker shared with them. I would like to thank in the name of LSAPS all four WSAVA CE program sponsor companies: Hill`s, Bayer, MSD Animal Health and Nestle Purina for their support.
