About AVEPA

AVEPA was founded in 1964 (by a small group of visionary, enthusiastic veterinarians at a time when the small animal specialty was just beginning. The Association rapidly grew up and nowadays it counts with 3.500 members, which represent 90% of small animal veterinarians in Spain. During its almost 50 years of uninterrupted activity AVEPA has organized 48 National and 3 World Congresses. Since 2007 the AVEPA National Congress has been organized jointly with the SEVC (Southern European Veterinary Conference) with speakers of international caliber, attracting thousands of participants from all over Europe. In the international arena AVEPA made its presence by being member of WSAVA, actively taking part in the foundation of FECAVA (Federation of Companion Animal Veterinary Associations), and of FIAVAC (Iberoamerican  Federation of Companion Animal Veterinary Associations). At present the headquarters for this Iberoamerican Federation (FIAVAC) is located in the AVEPA office. Annually, AVEPA organizes plenty of scientific activities along all the Spanish Areas and about the majority of Small Animal clinical specialties in addition to Practice Management, Ethics in Veterinary Practice and Animal Welfare. AVEPA has also published a great number of scientific monographies and the official journal of AVEPA – Clínica Veterinaria de Pequeños Animales - (Clin. Vet. Peq. Anim.) is the only journal on this specialty published in the Spanish language that appears indexed in the Journal of Citation Reports.

Mission

AVEPA Mission is to provide veterinarians and their staff the best scientific and human formation, in pursuit of professional excellence, and thereby contribute to the improvement of animal welfare.
