With women now making up almost half of the profession globally, our Executive Board is starting to reflect this, with a third woman being appointed to it.

The co-owner of a small animal practice in Holland, Renee Chalmers is known to many of us through her role as Assembly Representative for the Netherlands Association for Companion Animal Medicine (NACAM).  On the Executive Board, she will support Siraya Chunekamrai, Honorary Secretary.

She says:   “Many of the issues we face, One Health for example, can’t be solved locally.  We must work together to tackle them globally and this is where the WSAVA plays a vital role.  We offer a unique global forum for practitioners, enabling us to share knowledge and best practice.  We must continue to enhance veterinary CE and show strong leadership in important areas such as One Health, antibiotic resistance and zoonosis.

As a working veterinarian and as a woman, I bring practical experience to the Executive Board.  I’m really looking forward to working with an inspiring team to help enhance veterinary knowledge and animal welfare across the globe.”

Siraya Chunekamrai adds:  “With Renee’s appointment following mine and Ellen van Nierop’s, the WSAVA is starting to fulfill its vision of becoming a veterinary community which is truly representative of veterinarians right around the world.  Renee is a fantastic addition to our team and we’re delighted to have her on board.”
