WSAVA Annual Report 2011

Chris Amberger, LOC Geneva, Switzerland, April 2011

The 35th World Congress of WSAVA was held in Geneva, from Tuesday 2nd to Saturday 5th of June 2010. The Swiss Society of Small Animal Medicine (SVK/ASMPA), WSAVA, FECAVA and FAFVAC were associated in this annual meeting. This congress took place during a very critical financial period, and for a long time, the local organisation committee has been afraid that they would not be able to carry it through. The LOC has to reduce all the expenses, and finally succeeded to a balanced profit with the valuable support of all the sponsors.
We have been very pleased to receive you in our wonderful town of Geneva, and are really glad such a great many people could come, from all around the world, as we counted 2055 participants from over 75 nationalities.
The Scientific Committee succeeded in designing a program that fit to the need of all international delegates. Streams were available in 3 different languages, including practical clinical issues, standard therapy, advanced clinical research and state of the art lectures.
79 speakers from 15 countries have given 207 lectures in English, French and German during 3.5 days.
Abstracts and posters submission were organised online via the congress website. My warmest thanks and regards are dedicated to my old friend, Frédéric Gaschen, who pushed me into this adventure, but also courageously assumed the task of president of the Scientific Organisation Committee.

It can be concluded that the benefit of the 35th world congress was unexpected, and a great success. I do have to thank Martin Seewer and Hanspeter Steinlin for their incredible help in the planning of budgets and the control of final statement. Part of the benefit of the WSAVA meeting will be invested in WSAVA Continuing Education. This year, SVK/ASMPA is proud to sponsor CE meeting in Belgrade.

Our next SVK annual meeting will be hold from May 19 to 21, 2011, in Interlaken. The 42 Annual Meeting theme is “Neurons and Hormones”. All information is available onsite:

Now it is time for me to resign. Being SVK representative in WSAVA during these 4 year have been such an important experience in my life, meeting such great people in the WSAVA board during the organisation of the world congress. I am particularly happy to inform you that our next national representative is really the right lady for this job. Kathy is the past president of SVK. She helped us tremendously in organising Geneva WSAVA 2010, and was active promoting the World Congress in about all international meetings in Europe since 2006.

From the 1st January 2012, the WSAVA Representative for Switzerland is:

Dr Käthy Brunner
Tierarztpraxis Richtenstein
Tramgasse 34 CH-4142 Münchenstein

My last word to conclude this annual report is to thank my wife Pascale for her strong support during these 4 years. I am happy to still have a wife!
Thanks for this great time; I wish with all my heart a similar success in Korea WSAVA 2011
