________________________________ AVEPA´S YEARLY REPORT
The Asociación de Veterinarios Españoles Especialistas en Animales de Compañía (AVEPA) has completed during the period of october 2010 to october 2011 the following activities:
- The 10th Clinical Specialties Small Animal Groups´ Congress which offered 150 hours of lectures by 60 speakers, in 12 specialties during the 2nd and 3rd of April 2011. The scientific program was given in the following rooms: 1) Anaesthesia, 2) Cardiology, 3) Dermatology, 4) Behaviour, 5) Veterinary Practice Management, 6)Neurology, 7) Feline Medicine, 8) Internal Medicine, 9) Holistic Medicine, 10) Reproduction, 11) Orthopedic surgery 12) Emergency medicine. The congress was held in Valencia with more than 700 attendees and with the collaboration of 20 specialized companies.
- Southern European Veterinary Conference and 46th AVEPA´s Congress will be held in Barcelona from September 29 to the 2nd of October 2011. There will be 200 talks in 8 conference rooms (all with simultaneous translation in Spanish and English, 80 international speakers), 11 wet labs, and more than 131 poster and free communications in English and Spanish. We are waiting for 5000 participants with the sponsorship of 120 companies.
- The Continuous Education Program (FC AVEPA 2011) has been developed in 10 different cities all over our geography. The talks have been free for all our members. The areas touched are FC in Feline Medicine, FC in Internal Medicine and FC in Behavior. A seminar for Nurse Continuous Education was given in Pontevedra.
- Regional Continuous Education Program. These are organized by the local AVEPA delegates in every 10 geographical regions: Tenerife (Emergency Surgery by Jose Luis Puchol), Galicia (Internal Medicine: learning from mistakes, by Maruska Suarez and German Santamarina; and Nurse Continuos Education in May by Andrés Somaza and Paloma Cadahía); Pais vasco-Navarra (Seminars in Urinary Medicine and Nurse Continuous Education in May)
- Annual Scientific Conference´s of the working groups: Cardiology (Claudio Bussadori, Oriol Domenech, Francisco Llabres, Manuel Pinilla and Jordi Lopez); Dermatology (Lluis Ferrer and Rosana Marsella) and Orthopedics.
- Four numbers of the Revista Cientifica Clínica de Pequeños Animales have been published. This small animal journal is the only one in Spanish which appears indexed in the Journal Citation Reports.
- We have also edited 2 monographic numbers of the online FIAVAC Journal (one on Dermatology and one on Exotic Animals) which is distributed all over the Latin American, Spanish and Portuguese community.
