Report for WSAVA 2006 and 2007

Slovene Small Animal Veterinary Association (Slovensko zdruzenje veterinarjev za male zivali – SZVMZ) organises annual symposiums of actual diseases in small animals. We choose the topics for the next year and we invited one or more experts in their field.
Additional information about us and our activities can be found on our web page:
http://www.zdruzenje-szvmz.si/, which still exists only in Slovene language. We plane to translate it into English because of potential participants from neighbouring countries like Italy and Austria (“Alpe-adria region”). We started our active collaboration in 2007, organizing the 1st Alpe-Adria Diagnostic Cytology Symposium.

17 – 18 of March 2006: XIX. Annual Symposium
Main topic: Reproduction
Invited speaker: Stefano Romagnioli
10 hours of lectures
130 participants

2 – 3 of March 2007: XX. Annual Symposium
Main topic: Clinical diagnostic and pathology
Invited speakers: Itamar Aroch and Sara Galac
10 hours of lectures and poster session
200 participants

26- 27 of October 2007: 1st Alpe-Adria Diagnostic Cytology Symposium
Invited course speakers:
Alan REBAR, Purdue University, School of Veterinary Medicine West Lafayette, Indiana — USA
Ernst LEIDINGER, Labor InVitro, Vienna — Austria
Otto FISCHER, Dermatology Refereal Service, Tierspital Korneuburg — Austria
This Seminar and Workshop is designed for clinical practitioners that want to acquire or expand their skills in diagnostic cytology.
The 10-hour symposium will utilize lectures, video microscopy, and individual microscopes to illustrate general principles of cytologic interpretation, recognition of various preparation artefacts and the interpretation of a wide array of specimens including inflammatory and neoplastic lesions.
In a 2-hour wetlab the participants will review and practice different Collection Techniques, Smear Preparation Techniques and Cytologic Staining Techniques.
The lectures are held in English.
Closed number of participants: 50

We have already started organizing activities for the next, XXI. Annual Symposium in March 2008. The main topic will be diagnostic imaging.

WSAVA CE program

In 2001, the Slovene Small Animal Veterinary Association (SSAVA) began to organize WSAVA CE meetings in cooperation with CSAVS (Croatian Small Animal Veterinary Section, by Croatian Veterinary Chamber). Annual meetings were organised either in Croatia or in Slovenia and different speakers from different countries were invited according to the topic of choice.
In thisnpast year (2006) we did not organize any WSAVA CE meetings because CSAVS was the host of European FECAVA congress at the beginning of the year 2007.

28 of October 2007: Oncology
Invited speaker: Miriam Kleiter
8 hours of lectures
