SVA 2010 Annual Report (posted 01/11)

2010 meant another year of growth and exciting activities for the Singapore Veterinary Association. Our membership increased to 181 during a year of learning, adventure and working hand-in-hand with other veterinary associations within the region.

Our continuing education program for 2010 was comprehensive, encompassing a wide variety of topics and included two hands-on workshops - dentistry and ultrasonography. Aside from other veterinary conferences, SVA successfully hosted 5 CPE sessions.

1. Dermatology Seminar, jointly sponsored by Heska and Hills Pet Nutrition.
2. Parasitology Lectures, jointly sponsored by Bayer Animal Health and Lee Guan Chuan Pte. Ltd.
3. Small Animal and Rabbit and Rodent Dentistry Lectures and Workshops, jointly sponsored by IM3 and Hills Pet Nutrition.
4. Ophthalmology Series, presented by Dr. Robin Stanley.
5. Abdominal Ultrasound Workshop with Dr. Heng Hock Guan sponsored by Medical Plus and Esaote.
6. Advanced Small Animal Dentistry and Workshop, sponsored by IM3 and Biomed Diagnostics.

SVA also co-organised additional CPE talks and seminars with Royal Canin, Mano Equestrian Services and the Singapore Association for Laboratory Animal Science (SALAS).

All sessions were very well attended by our members and also drew many regional attendees, notably from Sri Lanka, Australia, and Malaysia. Our annual conference in October saw SVA co-hosting the Federation of Asian Veterinary Associations (FAVA) 2010 executive meeting. We hit record attendance numbers at the conference with sessions presented by Drs. Phillip Moses, Vic Menrath, John Newell and Fabienne Dethioux.

SVA is very appreciative and grateful for the help and support rendered by all participating sponsors who ensure all our events are held at the very highest possible standard.

2010 was also the year of our association’s bid to host WSAVA 2014 in Geneva. With the generous support of the Singapore Tourism Board, our team comprising Drs. Shane Ryan, Cathy Chan, Jeremy Lee and Jassia Pang made our international debut. Our presentation was well received and we will be strong competitors at the next bidding in the Asia-Oceania region for WSAVA 2015.

Lastly, SVA looks forward to the continued support from our local veterinarians and also veterinarians all around Asia. We are excited about the potential prospects of working together with other regional associations, and with our strategic geographical location also aspire to being the springboard for regional veterinary events.
