The majority of members are practitioners in various disciplines in the private sector. The continued expansion of the pet population, increased community awareness of the responsibilities of pet ownership and the growth of the laboratory animal medicine have all contributed to the increase in professional numbers. From January 2010, all practicing veterinary surgeons renewing their licence will need to have obtained a minimum of 50 Continuing Professional Education (CPE) points over the preceding 2 years. Since 2008, SVA has undertaken to provide sufficient CPE seminars and events in Singapore to ensure that its members have the opportunity to meet all the necessary requirements without undue time or financial stress.
