In May 2010 in Belgrade, SASAP held a series of lectures on dirofilariasis in dogs and cats. The meeting gathered delegates from the region including Bulgarian, Croatian and Romanian delegates. It was concluded that dirofilariasis disease has a significant tendency to increase the number of registered cases in our country and that is of enormous importance to our vet, and the general public, to educate about it. Lecturers were Dr. Sofia Katic-Radivojevic and Dr. Tamara Ilic from Serbia and Dr.Luigi Venco from Italy. Conclusions and recommendations of this expert meeting can be read in SASAP buletin. Symposium of small animal veterinary practice SIVEMAP 2010 took a place in Belgrade From 23-25 October 2010.This event continued with good tradition of gathering a large number of colleagues, both from our country, and from the entire region. It is interesting that this year was an equal number of delegates from foreign and local delegates, which supports the fact that SIVEMAP become an important regional event for veterinarians dealing with small practice. This year, the lecturers were world experts including: * Jean - Philippe Billet, DVM Diplomat ECVS who lectured * Samuel Jakovljevic, DVM, MSc, DRV, DECDI, MRCVS who taught the * Jon Wray, BVSC DSAM, MRCVS Cert VC, who lectures in diseases of the respiratory system * Professor. As part of the continuing education of Veterinary Chamber of Serbia Members of our Association held series of workshops with children under the project"Blue Dog" in order to educate the children and their parentsfor the proper treatment of dogs. The response from attendees has been very positive. More then 100 delegates participated in the program. I think it is a very good that we, sometimes, use our local resources to the maximum and that every day practitioners can present their views on various topics. Other activities of Association In area of veterinary legislation SASAP representatives send additional suggestions to the Ministry of Agriculture. SASAP will continue to contribute to all relevant political issues important for the small animal practice and veterinary medicine in general. Topics that were discussed included a reorganization of small animal practice, problems with identification of pets, distribution of prescribed veterinary medicine etc. Communication with Members Website SMASAP website served well but we think that might be some improvement in the future. Please visit www.smasap.org.rs for more details. Database The database is updated regularly; last year membership was more then 160 and we hope to improve further this year. Subcommittees There are a few SASAP subcommittees that were very active on various topics such are pet's identification, stray dogs control, new veterinary legislation, and Veterinary chamber of Serbia etc.
