Poland Polish Small Animal Veterinary Association (PSAVA) Faculty of Veterinary Medicine President: Dr. Jerzy Gawor WSAVA representative Polish Small Animal Veterinary Association 2006/7 Report General information Number of members – 420, (currently paid members are 228) The number of veterinarians working with small animals in Poland is estimated to 2600. The number of small animal practices is around 2000. It is much larger figure than PSAVA members, however a big part of them participate in events organized by Association. Continuing education In 2006 there were 2 CE events. The first one was WSAVA CE conference “Corneal diseases in dogs” on 23rd April in which 60 participants took part. The status of CE event had also PSAVA Annual Congress “Small Animal Cardiology and Gastroenterology” which was held on September 2006 in Wroclaw. There were other CE events in 2006: Skin Disease Symposium on January, VII Meeting of Poliklinika Slaska (March), X Dermatologic conference (April) , IIIrd Oncologic conference in Warsaw on June, The third Surgical Meeting dedicated to Blood therapy (May), Hip Dysplasia Conference on November. Several smaller meetings particularly from Imaging section were held thanks to their very active leaders. Although mentioned other activities had no WSAVA and/or FECAVA indirect input – we used our good relations with those Organizations to invite friends from other countries as the speakers. So we hosted over 30 foreign speakers presenting different fields of small animal medicine. While WSAVA/FECAVA Congress in Prague 78 participants from Poland were present. A big part of them were PSAVA members. PSAVA Congress September 2006 in Wroc³aw. 15-16 September PSAVA Congress May 13-14 2007 in Lodz. PSAVA Sections Other events Apart from that two campaigns in all over territory of Poland were held: June was dedicated to dentistry Pet Smile Campaign, August-October was several meetings in big cities in cooperation of Masterfoods and PSAVA: “Together with your dog-friend”. Total number of veterinarians participated in all events were estimated to 1800. In Pet Smile Campaign over 2000 vets in over 700 practices provided free dental check-ups. Plans for 2007/8
