AFVAC is : ASSOCPOUR ANIMAUX DE COMPAGNIE • More than 2600 members ; • Training sessions organized by 13 Regional Sections, 1 Work Group (Réunion – Indian Ocean)and • 18 Study Groups who organize evening events, fi eldwork, study days, regional and specialized seminars ; • 6000 veterinarians trained in 2010 ; • An annual Congress held in a different city in France each year, with a major theme, different levelsof lectures (general continuing education, advanced programme and specialised programme), interactive workshops, short communications, and a large commercial exhibition ; • Three scientific reviews, PratiqueVet, Pratique Médicale et Chirurgicale de l’Animal de Compagnie and the European Journal of Companion Animal Practice ;
For Educational Opportunities Our Association, which exists to provide professional continuing education of a high standard in companion animal medicine and surgery, must meet two demands: • create subject-based groups based on our day to day professional experience • ensure that scientific knowledge is available to everyone • The members of the 13 Regional Sections organize local events : • evening or day-time meetings; • regional seminars lasting several days. • This work is carried out together with the Study Groups. • Each of the 18 Study Groups specialises in a different area of veterinary practice. The groups are run by veterinarians who are experts in their particular field and consist of administrative teams and scientific committees. Veterinarians can benefit all year round from the various theoretical and practical training courses which are on offer, enabling them to continue their education on different levels. They take part each year in the construction of the Scientific Programme for AFVAC’s national congress. __________________________________ After the french section of the program during the world congress in Geneva, the french speaking veterinary associations federation (FAFVAC) organized a symposium on rabies in Djerba(Tunisia) at the end of 2010, during the OIE meeting. Thanks to the ATVAC ( the tunisian association) the symposium was very successful with speakers from Tunisia, Senegal and France. Many delegates attended from different countries all over the world with a large majority from Africa . An other program was started in March in Haïti with AMVQ (Quebec association) and is now going on. This program includes an education part, surgical demonstrations made by a colleague sent by AMVQ, and an objective of edition of booklets in French. This program is connected with Vet2011 activities.
This year, after Quebec, France and Switherland, the FAFVAC annual meeting will be held in Belgium .( Date: October 29-30; Venue: Namur). Maurice Roze FAFVAC President
