AMVEPE - a brief history

Shortly after a few pioneer veterinarians set up clinics dedicated exclusively to pet animals, AVEPA (Asociación de Médicos Veterinarios Especialistas en Pequeños Animales) was set up in Quito in 1974. The founding members of this association formed the base of the group of professionals that are now known as AMVEPE (Asociación de Médicos Veterinarios Especialistas en Pequeñas Especies). AMVEPE has grown over the years to reunite those professionals who wish to improve, through organized courses, seminars and sharing of information, the veterinary health care for small animals (dogs and cats) within their clinics. AMVEPE was registered as only legally recognized association by the ministry of agriculture and livestock in 1996. Information and courses offered and/or impulsed by the association as well as the investment in better and newer equipment for the establishments, has allowed the Ecuadorian small animal veterinarian to keep improving his/ her professional image towards a more specialized and modern one.
