The Canadadian Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA) is the national voice for the veterinary profession dedicated to serving and representing veterinarians of Canada.

The Association is committed to excellence within the profession and to the well-being of animals. It shall promote public awareness of the contribution of animals and veterinarians in society.

The CVMA is representing Canadian veterinarians nationally and internationally, promoting animal health, animal welfare and the profession's role in public health. Some of the many programs and tools that the CVMA is providing to its companion animal veterinarians:

-Business Management tools: Annual benchmarking surveys; suggested fee guides; Compensation and Benefit Reports for Associate veterinarians; Non-DVM Wage reports; individual Practice Reports; Provincial Economic Reports; free one-on-one economic consulting; continuing education on business management

- Public awareness campaigns: i.e. dental campaign, obesity campaign, senior campagn

-Issuing of Pet Wellness Report in partnership with Hills: Media campaign has resulted over a short time in about 15 million media impressions.

-Lead partner in the national campaign on Care for Cats.

-Partner in the International Summit for Urban Animal Strategies

-Codes of Practice for Canadian Cattery Operations and for Kennel Operations.

-Prudent Use if Antimicrobials Guidelines(developed for large animals, under developmentfor companion animals)

-Position Statements such as: Considerations Regarding the Choice of a Pet, Cosmetic Surgery, Cutting Canine Teeth in Dogs, Devocalization of Dog and Cat Spay/Casteration, Humane Training Methods for Dogs, Onychectomy(Declawing) of the Domestic Feline, Puppy Mills, Purebred Dog Breeding

-Member of the Veterinary Companion Animal Nutrition Consortium, together with WSAVA, AAHA, AVMA,and other members.

-The only annual multi-species Convention, including wet labs and nine companion animal streams.
