Alliance for Contraception in Cats and Dogs (ACCD)
2002 Symposium on Non-Surgical Methods of Pet Population Control In August of 2000, The Alliance for Contraception in Cats and Dogs was formed as a collaborative effort to develop and test non-surgical technologies for the humane control of cat and dog overpopulation. At our recent business meeting conducted during the Symposium, in keeping with this mission, we decided to establish a "core organizing committee" composed of ACCD members representing the following collaborative interests: academics (research and teaching), animal welfare organizations, veterinary practitioners, the pharmaceutical industry, funding foundations, and regulatory agencies. We further decided that each committee member would serve a term of three years and that two members would be replaced annually. Please let us know if you are interested in serving on the ACCD Core Organizing Committee by indicating this on your membership application. One of the primary functions of the Committee will be to organize the next Symposium to be held in 2004. At our recent business meeting, we also agreed that it is the responsibility of ACCD to promote and defend the development and use of non-surgical contraceptive products as important and effective strategies for pet population control. We will promote our approach to contraception, but will neither endorse, nor denounce individual products. With this in mind, we are establishing an on-line bulletin board for the purpose of addressing issues of concern to the ACCD membership and the public related to nonsurgical sterilization of cats and dogs. In addition, we are reprinting the Proceedings of the 2002 ACCD Symposium and distributing them to veterinary colleges nationwide. If you would like to order a copy(ies), please use the attached form and mail it to the address indicated. The Proceedings book contains detailed notes from all speakers, plus abstracts from the poster session. For a listing of the speakers and presentations at the 2002 Symposium, see the attached Symposium schedule. Thank you for your interest in ACCD. We encourage and welcome your membership and hope you will join us in facilitating collaborative efforts in developing humane medical methods for controlling pet populations.
